That composition works for me - the figure is perfectly placed and, in this case, certainly is a vital ingredient.

Oh. Go on then. Crop away.

I dithered about where to crop. I took some off the bottom but decided to keep the tree roots.

Bit of a cheat - not so much a crop as a Content Aware Scale...

Good crop from BP. My idea was to experiment with cloning (or fading)  out the hillside top left, which may or may not work. (Would have to see the final result).

 

Stunning view however.

Yes, BP's crop/scale has worked really well. I'm not too sure about how the scaling thing works, though, so if anyone would like to explain........

I thought about a dark vignette or radial filter but I have been overdoing it recently so held back with this one.

Content Aware Scale is a PS CC tool that reduces/squashes areas with limited detail while trying to hold onto major content within the image. It's not perfect and this is an extreme example but it's a clever tool.

Its not something I use very often but can be handy - I tend to keep it for squashing seascapes where there is lots of plain areas into a wider format.
