At last, I found a subject that proves what a fantastic bit of kit a ...Nifty-Fifty......lens can do...how, when wide open will produce photographs with amazing Shallow Depth of Field.

As taken, with no crop...I have given the original RAW file a CS3 boost plus selective sharpening.

The lens is a vintage MINOLTA AF 1.7/50 won on eBay for well under £90 ...if you have a SONY Alpha camera I can highly reccommend getting one.

I was hoping to enjoy it's Street Photography capabilities at our local Market this morning...but Sod's law has brought heavy rain and leaden skies......Ah Well! there will be other days ;-)

I have an absolutely fabulous Minolta MC Auto-Rokkor 58mm f1.4 lens, which gives the most amazing shallow DOF at full aperture (providing you can live with the edge softness at f1.4). I just wish there was a way to use it on a digital camera, but alas I plumped for a Lumix superzoom.
