LESSONS LEARNED

Recommended Posts

Yesterday, was to be perfect for a half day shoot in Stratford-Upon-Avon, with my Leica owning mate, both of us,using a variety of lenses and settings to compare results later.

Except for the oppressive heat by midday, our Street Photography Skills and interaction with complete strangers developed as we envisaged, we returned home, hot, tired, hungry and happy.

According to his email, later, his shoot went as expected, he is re-learning past manual skills, demanded by his  Leica.

I was happy too, until, I went up to my PC after DNG converter, did its job on over 100 RAW files......the whole lot were lost or corrupt....

'After three hours of frustration, and using two recovery programs, I got them all back...but, only ad JPEGS...good to see them, but it has put paid to any serious comparisons of lens and settings differences, and to serious post processing.

GRRRRRRRR!  We took great care to plan our big day out, then this spoilt it.

Fuji  - are the files on your memory card corrupt  or just the downloads?

Thanks JUDY....

I tried three separate ways to recover the RAW versions, but no matter what I did, they didn't reappear......just the JPEG versions with limited or no editing potential.....

i have given up and formatted the card, to make test shots this morning......it is a card I've had for two years at least with at least two reformats  a week, so it has probably had it?

If the JPEGs are the low quality sort you get when you shoot RAW+JPEG, then I feel for you, but hope you can make the best of a bad job.

If however, they are standard full quality JPEGs that people get when they opt to shoot JPEGs (and sometimes with RAW too if you made that choice in the menu), then I don't see the problem. You have massive scope for post-processing, but if the JPEG engine in your camera is any good (and most are, these days) then you won't need much, assuming you got more or less correct exposures.
