The first one looks fine to me - the second does have a few blown highlights, but it is bright sun.

'I will be looking into my monitor settings, it was calibrated just prior to processing these pics.....

'I'm pretty certain that the light/brightness is a direct result of my current experimental processing, I like the whites to be white, and the blacks to be black but not with loss of detail in either case.

it can be a fine balancing act....I made these lighter, because children are metaphorically, light subjects, not dark or threatening or wrinkled.....I have returned to both, in CS6 to re-jig them......they are saved, as separate files now.

I much appreciate all feedback and comment....it us the way I prefer to learn.

I loved the one that you did of a little girl a few years back. 

The highlights were bright and I think she had a red umbrella. Do you know the one that I mean.

It was a picture that could be hung on a wall.
