Went  for a walk yesterday near King Charles wood  near Kemberton in Shropshire and found this ... Not sure what "make " it is   but nearest thing in my book says it may be a  Speckled Wood.. Maybe the experts out there can confirm ...

I had a surprise too as I realised the noise from the aircraft overhead sounded iconic and to my shock I saw a Spitfire and a Hurricane circling ...Of course there was an Airshow at Cosford a couple of miles away ...As an added bonus   I saw and filmed the amazing  Vulcan's last flight  on my Panasonic FZ 1000... ( Not having even tried it out before )

Always pays to carry the camera.... even though some days  one comes back with nothing to show for it !!

You asked ME the leading expert on mis identification (shakes head)

But yes as crafty says its a speckled wood

I think this is a female, a flick of the hair and a come and get me attitude

Males are lazy sods
The male is territorial and will inhabit a particular clearing or hedgerow, where he will rest on a prominent sunlit perch waiting for a passing female. Other males are soon seen off before the defending male returns to a favourite perch. If no suitable territory can be found, or when there is a large number of males, the male will patrol in search of a mate instead. When a male encounters a receptive female, which has a more laboured flight than the male, she will fall to the ground or a nearby leaf where, after a brief courtship, the pair mate. Both sexes feed from honeydew, but also take nectar from a variety of plants when honeydew is scarce, such as Ragwort.

Thanks  Fuzzy ....  and for the lesson in recognising their  mating  habits/ rituals....

I hadn't really been aware  of your "mis-identification "  reputation  Fuzzy... However  Paul  looks like he wins the prize for misidentifying Members .....:lol:
