Anyone had experience with Fujifilm XF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 Lens

Recommended Posts

I'm picking up a Fujifilm XF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 R LM OIS WR Lens next week with a 1'4 converter and am interested to know if any of you guys out there have tried it  especially with this converter .. A lot of reviews look pretty good  but I haven't used a converter before. According to the blurb Colin  ( thanks for  answering my  naughty off topic query  on Bill's post ) it says  it drops down one full stop with the 1.4 converter ... and it's an additional £100 when  you get it with the lens so seems daft not to get it ......... any comments or info appreciated  ...

You won't be disappointed with or without the converter.  It is a very sharp lens.  I dare say that there is some degradation with the converter fitted but unlike third party converters I have used with zooms in the past, I just don't see it.  It's other beauty is that it has 5 stops of image stabilisation and that is no hollow claim.  It means that you can use relatively lower shutter speeds which to a degree counters the loss of aperture.  I mainly use mine hand held and occasionally supported by a bean bag which is great for BIF.  My tripod and gimbal head are all but redundant.  It's a great piece of glass.  Enjoy.

Oooh that sounds encouraging John ... Have you ever been to the MACH LOOP between Dolgellau and Machynlleth to catch the low flying aircraft training there ? Ive never  really  captured much in the way of  aircraft flying  but  want to learn  how best to get good images ... Might give it a try on my way back from my camera shop on Colwyn Bay ...I wonder if Denis has been there...

No I haven't Clicks.  Never felt the need to probably because most of my working life until I worked on RN ships, I worked in purchasing on the site where most of the UK's aircraft were built   specifically Jet provosts, Jaguars, Tornados and Typhoons and briefly, Nimrod.  Aircraft whizzing around was a normal part of life.  Even now, we live under the flight path to the airfield so I guess I've had my fill.
