A test for our sept- and octogenarians.

I found this old lady just dumped in the bush just outside of town. Do you know what it is?

It plucks at my heart strings as my Dad's first car was one of these. In fact if I remember rightly it was the first car in our street.

Fuzzy and Dennis get the prize, which will be in the post as soon as I find something suitable. Perhaps a ticket to last year's Cup Final.

In retrospect, I think my Dad's car must have been older. I seem to remember it as being wider, somehow, and I think early fifties would have been outside our price range at that time.

This would look stunning as a retro image or hdr

....and Chrissy,,,,,,,,,,,,I've got Photomatix tucked away somewhere, I might give HDR a try. Or I might go out there again and do a proper 5 or 7 shot HDR.

If it was that style then it would have been from 1946 onwards, before that nearly all makes were with an up right radiator and deep front wings

The other humber model was a super snipe, same body but with a 6 cylinder motor

If you were in Aus at that time it could have been a Holden

If not maybe a wolsey 6/80 (with illuminated badge on the radiator) or a MG

They both carried this style

We arrived on these sunny shores in 1971, when this old girl was in middle age. I think when my Dad had his Humber, I was about 10-11 so I think ours must have been an earlier model as we could never afford a car less than 10 years old..

You mention Holdens. All Aussies regard Holden as their own, apart from Ford owners that is, and we had a flourishing car manufacturing sector in the 70-80s. All the American giants were here. But sadly, they've all been withdrawn and are being made mostly in Asia now. In 2 years Holden will close and then we'll have none. That's progress (?).

I would go for a 1950 / 52 Humber Hawk Mk IV

The Hawk differed from the snipe, from the front by the side lights, Hawk had round where as the snipe had rectangular

I demand a re count on the prize

Although it could be a mk111 as they differed only in engine size that would make the years it was made 1948 to 1954

my last post was trying to identify what Brians dad had when Brian was 10 or 11
