OMG, I can't believe this! I think I said in one of my blog posts that there was one picture I went out to capture; this was the lady, Cathy, who is squire of the Westmorland Step and Garland Dancers. I didn't get the shot that I saw in my mind but was well pleased with what I did capture. Thank you all for your support and encouragement and making me feel so welcome as a newbie to both photography and this forum!
  3. I've been playing around with my new Nikon D5100. In live view mode I can flip between show Info, hide info and show framing grid on the screen. Since the rule of thirds is such a strong compositional tool, can anyone suggest why the grid lines divide my screen into quarters rather than thirds.
  4. We can't stop bad people doing bad things, but as long as good people do good things we can make a difference. Have you thought about a Neighborhood Watch scheme in your area; it builds community spirit and you get to know one another. It's probably a good thing that the masked men fled, the last thing you want to do is be outnumbered in a confrontation like that. I wish I had a neighbor like you Leon!
  5. I'm going to take a guess and say the second image is the Nikon 50mm based on the fact that the background is thrown out of focus better!

A well deserved pic of the week!
  8. Oh yes the manual; I got three of those in the box along with the cds, I gave some back to the guy from the shop. I had already downloaded the manual from the web and been reading it all day. Also had a play with the View NX2 software from the Nikon site, ok for free I suppose but I'm sure there's better available.
