  1. Hi Rye,

Surprisingly  it could be as late as a year or so ago because the Company….. RED TRIANGLE…. are in my home town.

Brent, my photographer pal and I were given a guided tour of the Series of buildiings on a local industrial unit where oldies are restored  , new Alvises are made , serviced and broken up, for spares .

Red Triangle is worth seeking out on YouTube, and Google…. Lots of info..

Brent and I enjoyed  a gratis VIP tour compete with coffee and biscuites.

See the workshop with a brand new Alvis under construction , hand beaten aluminium panels , plus solid ash frames, using original designs, but with all mechanicals up to today’s standards…a truly fascinating place.

  2. Yesterday, I acquired a new toy….a relative , Hen’s Tooth , of a camera; a used FUJI H X 100 V . Camera.

These were the best of my numerous test shots , taken before I had touched the hand book of a relatively complicated camera, shot on natural light, after I had worked out enough to get the ambient indoor light right.

Shot in RAW, NO PROCESSING EXEPT CROPS.

  3. My iPhone 13 pro, certainly delivers the goods, as far as Photography goes….

I’m no gardener, I don’t know what they are called, but this spread of blue beauties in the morning light took my eye earlier today.

Feeling very frustrated, because currently I’m not allowed to walk far…. …it will be about four more eeeks until some kind of normality returns.

  4. Hi, Paul,

since your early beginnings into macro from Astro ( I think ?) , you have become some thing of a real expert in our usually hidden, small world, which is becoming increasingly important to the saving of our planet.
Even during my semi-serious venture into macro photography I noticed a real drop in the numbers of bumble bees, butterfly’s and moths from our tiny gardens; it was only serious retinal surgery that forced me to sell all of my treasured SONY gear, to turn increasingly toward Street Photography and Mono Photography.

Your observations and carefully considered compositions are a joy to see ant to study .

I an]m hoping that at least a few of your works have found their way into specialist publications, or, at least, into Photo-Books  you have self published…..if not…they should be.

For my almost annual venture into self publishing, I use….BOOKPRINTINGUK…..they have a brilliant team of experts who will , lead you through the creation, and production of beautiful books , no matter your existing  publishing expertise. Their prices are very reasonable, and turn-around times remarkably speedy, just a matter of a few weeks.

Bookprintinguk …differ from other companies, in that it is YOU who is responsible for all of your design and editing, all, they do is to beautifully print what you send them.

Customers Always  receive a free Sample Proof copy…once this is corrected or approved, the company can print from five volumes upwards, in soft or, hardback …Their photography reproduction on good paper is first class.

I have nothing to do with the company, except to use them often.

My current macro camera is my new iPhone 13 pro, it has incredible capabilities for what it is… see here…

    Best regards

Wishing you a speedy recovery. Good to hear you're taking it easy. My brother in law has an  implanted defibrillator, and it took him some time to get used to, but he hardly notices it now.

Thanks Kate…. Your message is very comforting…. … strange to think, that this time last week, I was very close to the edge….

The local NHS were simply amazing.

Good to see you back on the forum Cyril, hope you recover soon. Love the photo of your little cat....

Thank you Rye, thank you Paul.

It has been a very tough week, a close thing at first.

I will be ok as long as I follow all the post operative rules; and then learn to work with a pacemaker ; a strange thing to think about at times.

I was diagnosed with Bradycardia. A serious slowing of the heart, causing serious oxygen shortages and faints; the pacemaker now regulates my heartbeat>

    Currently I can’t put a camera to my eye….

    best regards

  7. I was taken to Stratford-Upon-Avon, for a shoot by my good friend Brent again today, the weather was perfect.

On crossing over the River Avon on Clopton  Bridge , we heard a terrific commotion ….. it was caused by the male of this pair of geese chasing away another goose from getting  too close to their lovely brood of goslings.

Here in the first two shots, they are all regrouping after a real old ding-dong ….

The other  shot shows the same group later in the day in a very different light.

I just can’t fault the ability of my iPhone 13 pro to get the shot….the geese were some 20 feet below my camera, so I used Zoom, to great effect.

I also had my M 4/3rds LUMIX GX9 with me shooting in Black and White.

I will be processing those tomorrow, a day out makes me extremely tired now.

Love the background of your painting, Fuji.

Thank you….it is extremely simple to do, just lay down the initial wash , then before it’s dry , lay cling film over it with the random creases and marks directional by pulling the edges, then leave to dry.

salt can be added for further random effects which help to add interest and depth to many watercolour works.

  9. Hi Polly,

So good to receive your message …. Yes! We all miss Korky so much…..an amazing character who just oozed fun and mischief , it was a real, pleasure to meet up with all of you…. I still, look back on the photographs every so often.

I don’t think I will ever change my current set-up because it works so very well .

I continue to , paint in my veranda  studio,  and turn little novelties in my workshop  as mood and time allow … I am much slower physically , but mind as sharp as a tack….I love Life,

I have a lot of fun on Facebook now, but only in a small town group called…Kenilworth Vibes….

    Have a wonderful Easter.

Here is an almost finished painting….I added the finishing touches , early this morning

  10. All of these were from a Street Shoot in Stratford-Upon-Avon yesterday…. My shooting pal Brent , is kind enough to drive me for the odd day out , he pays the diesel and the parking, soI buy lunch and coffees etc…. A great arrangement that suits both of us.

I have discovered that my LUMIX GX9 camera has a good choice of mono settings….this high contrast one, is my favourite… the resulting shots require little or no post -processing….just the odd crop or straighten , plus a tweak if required in Curves…All done on my iPad Pro.

    1: Tourist’s right in front of Shakespeare’s Birthplace……Jet Lag ?

2: I shot a candid of this , Street beggar, because he looked fitter than most and can afford to smoke….he simply glared at passer’s by.

  11. A photographer pal and I had a fantastic opportunity last Thursday .

We were give almost totally free access to the ALVIS/RED TRIANGLE works just a mile or so from my home.

The famous Coventry Alvis motor company was bought outright from BEA Systems when they stopped manufacturing military vehicles…… The new owner set up a completely new showroom and works in a number of different units locally.

Besides offering to service or completely rebuild ANY Alvis car, they now hand build completely new models based on the old chassis and designs….

During our visit we watched sheet aluminum being hand beaten , engines being rebuilt, ash body frames being fitted…. An incredible few hours including free coffees.

    A technical query here.
my set of beautiful mone studies from the visit are impossible to upload… some are plus-minus 22 mb ….. resizing using the iPad is a pain, as is storage capacity…. My other forum, has no problems with my work… is it possible to update the TIPF uploaded please ?

  12. Hi all.

For a very long time now, I have concentrated solely on monochrome images , especially  for my , Street Photography, but just recently things took a technical twist, so I will be posting both in colour and in black and white.

First off I have figured out how to get my brilliant and faithful LUMIX GX9 to shoot in high contrast , L MONOCHROME D mode , a setting that requires little or no post processing, except fro the occasional straighten and/or crop.

For my colour shots, I have acquired a shiny new iPhone 13 pro, with its incredible range of lenses and modes….. I’ve gone all trendy , to use it on a gimbal with a wrist-strap.

‘Surprisingly it doesn’t attract attention at all, not like my camera does , I become even more invisible in crowded places.

The phone camera, has awesome macro potential too , so for my more formal, shoots with a good friend I will have both camera and phone in use.

But, for my daily walk into town, it will be my , mono-set GX9 only…. I refer to it as my….Poor Man’s Leica… with its current lens and settings combination.

Addendum : I have a technical query regarding posting on TIPF currently…. Many of my pics won’t post unless they are reduced….some are 5.4 MB …… I guess I need to resize them ?

Hanging around a woman's boutique is only acceptable for a man if he's got camera round his neck-its art-at least that's your story!😉

The proprietor of the boutique is so used to my stopping by every so often, has a display of my photos on the wall inside…….

on a technical note, TIPF wouldn’t accept the original size….methinks I have reduced it a tad too much ?

  14. At last , face coverings are being removed, I have missed practicing my Street Photography and Portraiture so much during lockdown .

This morning a pal and I ventured into a relatively new Coffee Shop , one of three which opened in town during lockdown and restrictions. Surprisingly and against all odds all three have thrived. Mainly because they opened their doors to take-away collection only, so carrying hot coffees almost became a fashion statement…..their outside seating  soon became very popular too.
Now they are riding the popularity wave……long may it continue….. I know that they have given COSTA a bit if a bloody nose along the way.
