  1. So we can expect the new D800s (ish) in June/July, only again as with the D4s, just a "few" small upgrades. And if to be believed the D9000 or 9xxx in September the long awaited D300/s replacement. But as I said, and as stated on many a website like Nikon Rumors, "small" upgrades, so have DSLR manufacturers finally met a brick wall in what to offer. Do we no longer want 100Mp sensors, 10-1000mm zooms, 20fps. I was going to get a D4s, but have over a month, and having tried one out decided that all it would be to me would be snob appeal, and not worth the cost. I would get a D300s replacement IF it had 8fps and a larger sensor say D7100 ish, but it appears innovations are now few and far between. And yet another boring 50mm lens http://nikonrumors.com/
  2. I will be away next weekend from the Friday to the Monday, http://www.p1superstock.co.uk/ Make a note in your diary anyone who can come to Bournemouth, look me up,
  3. "I do kind of feel guilty charging, but if I start to give free, people do take advantage. I noticed that mainly when I did drawings." It depends on what you want from your photography. I give a lot away, in fact so far I have made a loss in my business, but the contacts I have made are priceless. Giving images away has got me into areas of photography, events and behind the scenes I would never have got to before, I have built a reputation as a good, honest photographer to be trusted, and now people are asking me to undertake contract work for them. It has cost me, I guess, somewhere in the region of £3-500, which I have considered not only an investment in the business but part of my marketing strategy, if giving away a couple of snaps gets me a good reputation, additions to my portfolio, then so be it.
  4. Never even consider watermarking a SALE By all means put a name/address sticker on the back but watermark !!!!!!!!!!!!! Also if I were taking photos of a "friends" dog I would give them away, but that is me It's not bad but I would not charge, part of the foot is chopped off, and personally I would do it is portrait format
  5. "No ruder than your "A poor workman..."" No but we pm each other, and HE knows I was joking FYI was simply rude and you and I don't pm and you also missed the in MY text
  6. FYI, most rude do you not think, and FYI My Nikon F had motorwind, but I also used a Nikkormat FTN which did not FYI.................
  7. "yeah my fav is "I wish I had a camera like yours so I could take such good pictures" I'm like yeah thanks cause I had naff all to do with taking the damn picture" In fact you are wrong, sorry. Ask MrWall above, who knows the limitations of certain cameras in certain fields. I could NOT do the work I do with a 3fps camera, I need 6/7 and more sometimes, so there are reasons for needing either better or more importantly "different" gear.
  8. A poor workman.............................. They did all right with manual wind in film days
  9. "But what annoys me is that after spending a day driving about, trekking through fields, mud, puddles and cow poo, climbing over countless walls and getting cut to shreds on countless brambles, to get to that one point I know will give me the angle I want, then sitting and waiting for the sun to drop to the right position and stay out from the clouds long enough, after firing test shot after test shot to ensure I have the exp I want, then getting myself back to car, driving back home, loading my image and spending an hr or two adjusting the image, correcting and re-adjusting until I can see on screen what was in my minds eye and then finally posting it for all to see....I get back the response......"great picture, what camera did that?" And they did say "Great picture", then..................... I think we are forgetting people who say this probably aren't photographers, big deal, I have openly heard people stop and talk to fishermen when they have caught a fish and ask what they use, none appear to care about the question. Also I often ask what gear another uses when they are obviously a "photographer" because I have on two occasions bought gear on their advice
  10. But there is nothing wrong with talking about the gear either, car enthusiasts drive, fishermen get their tackle out, vinyl enthusiasts scorn CDs and all love to talk about their gear, big deal
  11. Well here is the other side of the coin, I do care what is used to take the image. In fact where possible in the past not only have I said what gear was used, camera lens etc but when I do a shot such as bursting a balloon with water I will even show how it is done. Also I have never ever in all the years I have been taking photos had that said, nice pic what gear, if they did ask I would say, as I am not only proud of my gear but happy to show it off if the need be, com on what photographer doesn't want to show off their nice new lens.
  12. As long as you are happy that is all that matters.
  13. Take great care I would not trust my 150-500 on my D7100 or 60Ds on it, Bit like me having a £2k bike (I do) and using a £15 Halfords bike lock and complaining when it gets stolen
  14. The test of a tripod is place weight on it, not just a standard DSLR, add a 27-300 and then knock it and see when it is extended just how long it takes to stop shaking when looking through the viewfinder. Or what it is like in the wind, I would not use the 190CXPRO3 in the wind If YOU are happy that's all that matter. Errr the RRP is £160, I have yet to fine any retailer in the past 40 years that has ever sold anything at the RRP, it never happens, if you check Google, it shows that it has never been over £70 on Amazon, ever. As we are always told "If it looks too good to be true................." http://www.adquisitio.co.uk/bilora/m294-blue-magic-line-iii An RRP is the same almost as a SRP, just a price manufacturers suggest
  15. Think about this logically, and why good pods cost what they do. Retail price £70, take off shipping costs, suppliers markup, retailare profit and you have a manufacturing cost of, well lets be generous, say £15, what do you think. Oh and it says "Partly made of Aluminiul alloy !!!!!!!, which one http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Aluminium_alloys, and a lot of cheap plastic NO contest http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Manfrotto-MT294A3-Aluminium-Tripod-w-3-Leg-Sections-Brand-New-/310891836871?pt=UK_Tripods_Monopods&hash=item486298f5c7 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Manfrotto-190-190XB-Professional-3-Section-Tripod-Black-Excellent-condition/281335345257?_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851&_trkparms=aid%3D222003%26algo%3DSIC.FIT%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D22312%26meid%3D6897689527724920993%26pid%3D100005%26prg%3D9701%26rk%3D3%26rkt%3D6%26sd%3D310891836871&rt=nc Also never buy what you can't try, most retailers stock Manfrotto, Giottos etc. I use the Manfrotto 055XPROB, the 190CXPRO3 and Giottos MTL9271B, Despite all being about the sameish size, the stability varies greatly, so try before you buy,
  16. Does anyone know of one that checks and gives a report on the transfer speed of SD cards. There are supposedly some but no site works Thanks H2test2 1.4. is one but I have yet to find a REAL download
  17. http://www.digitalrev.com/product/leica-s2/NzU5Mw_A_A?googlebase=1&country=GB&gclid=CIPLoOfpqL4CFQkCwwodjxkAfA
  18. Then what would I do in my old years
  19. Are you sure that's your website, I get loads of gig photos
  20. 700D, still just 5 fps, I have a 60d, too slow for races, the extra up to 7fps even 6 makes a heck of a difference, more importantly buffer. Better that link opens in facebook, still no webpage though Ok, am I past it, 57
  21. When I click on your link all I get is this page can not be displayed
  22. However don't be too hard on photographers who DO have the gear, either they have earned it or like me, don't smoke, drink, gamble, and just enjoy good gear I have no commitments, no mortgage, no wife (now, thank god), raised my sons as a single dad for 18 years and now two of three have left, this year I will get a D4s and when available the D9300 D300s replacement in September and am considering a couple more lenses, The average cost of 20 cigarettes is say £6.75 x 7 = £47.25 a week x 52 = £2,457.00, add pub for many and there is a good camera
  23. The problem with most is they don't want to miss one shot, need the best photo, spend so much time trying they miss the "fun" of the event. I have shot weddings, sports, wildlife and more and never ever get OTT, (must me the medication I'm on) and it helps to be there for the fun, enjoy the day, the photography, and believe me "luck" will play a big part. These are luck only, I have the complete sequence, of each 20 frames each, just right place right time, no special expensive gear
  24. Yeah, Am I alone in getting more and more sick of this garbage excuse to monitor what you say, and for companies to keep a record of it. What they really mean is... "in case you are rude or abusive to a member of our staff, later deny what you said, or try to say you said something different, we are recording this conversation". I now refuse point blank to speak to any company who will not turn recordings off. Also when I call them, I say, "that's ok I am recording the conversation too", if they say they don't want that to happen, ask why, YOU insist on it.
