Hi yes it is a kookaburra, apparently not a raptor but a member of the Kingfisher family. I'm not a bird expert at all going on what was said at the shoot.

We both spent the other Saturday down at Liberty's Owl and Raptor Centre in Ringwood on a 2 hour studio shoot. This was a first time using studio equipment, all set up for us, just needed to use manual for aperture and speed

We were also able to stay and wander around and watch the outdoor flying displays.

The only Aurora I have seen

I always thought that Cannon were one step ahead of Nikon in the professional camera range and Nikon always were playing catch up. Not so sure nowadays with mirrorless though. 

I think the first one is very slightly spoiled by seeing the modern vehicles in the background. Otherwise all 3 are very good, and could have been taken in any year. 

If memory serves me correct and it was a number of years ago probably 25+ now,  SNG was down at The Watercress line Mid-Hants Railway and we stood next to it, I remember pointing out 112mph plaque on the engine showing that it was the fastest loco for a time, to our son who was probably around 6-7 at the time.

This was the views we woke up to on the very first morning in Norway after 2 days at sea. 

Skjoden is at the end of the longestand deepest Fjord in Norway at around 200Km

For the first taste of Norway it is stunning.these shots were taken in the morning with the mist still around. It's a shame we only had one day here as part of the cruise. We did a scenic heights tour where we went from sea level to 1100m high and still the mountain ranges went up, will put up another post with those ones.

It is always something special to see a 50Ton WW2 tank in operation. It was parked on the high ground so I didn't have to edit/crop out all the heads below! Also helped by using my 150-600mm Tamron lens and monopod.

It's a very interesting day out the museum has very good displays from right from the very beginning of the tank up to the Challenger 1. 

Also it is only about 16 miles to Swanage, and Weymouth is quite close to in the other direction

Yes Colin it is. They have a 3 day Tank Fest and 2 Tigerdays in the year. Went to Tankfest last year,1 day only, but didn't take the camera. Tank Fest includes the Army so has demo of modern equipment.

Good set, which bring out the joy people get from being part of the steam scene.

There is some really good shots there especially as handheld, High ISO number to bring the shutter speed  to something sensible for hand holding?

Went to get my train ticket on Sunday evening and Mayflower was in taking on water.

Battle of Britain class 34072, designed by Oliver Bulleid, was built in 1948 and withdrawn from BR service in 1964.  This type was notable for its flat sides, to become known as ‘Spam Cans’, and unique chain driven valve gear.

It was purchased by Southern Locomotives Ltd and restored at Swindon in 1990, moving to Swanage in 1992.  It ran until 2003 needing a major overhaul.  This started in 2013 and it returned to service in 2018.

Went for a walk around the castle last weekend, near Newbury. had often driven past the sign just never got there 

This is medieval castle was built in the early thirteenth century. It was built by Sir Richard Abberbury the Elder. Though the castle was well in use till the sixteenth century, it was demolished by the Parliament. The decision was taken after the English Civil War. The gatehouse survived but all the other parts of the castle are in ruins today.

I know what you mean, but I do like the noise of a heavily laden diesel when they put the power down. I have seen a few more recently as I commute by train for work now as they go through in the mornings some times if I catch a different train in.

Looks ok in colour, you can see the reflection of the yellow on the platform edge in this.

I like this, shot makes it look like it has been working as the sides are not highly reflective, as some loco's look overly polished which wouldn't have happened in real life.
