I like the idea of the first pic Kerry with the tuning keys and head of the guitar in focus with the shallow depth of field displaying the fret board and the main body of the guitar. I'm afraid the material though just doesn't work for me ....not sure why ... maybe it's the texture and pattern that is distracting . Maybe a plain flat surface with slightly reflective shine would work better and I wonder if any other complementary objects in a blurred background like sheet music , a music stand or guitar case and some creative lighting. Just a thought as it looks like beautiful instrument and I can see the potential for some really super images . Still ... you may well disagree and it 's just my opinion so hope you don't mind me saying so .. Others may disagree entirely

That is a really effective use of oil on water Mik .. I like the the way the light shows graduated shading on some of the spheres to give a 3D effect.. It could be another solar system ...

Lighting used creatively like this can make a very ordinary image into an exceptional one ... Beautifully lit and captured Mik ...

Such sad news … Ryewolf was informed last night as Leon had seen a posting apparently by her daughter on Facebook and we didn’t want to post anything until we could confirm with a member of her family as both Rye and I do not use Facebook . Dee last telephoned me on October the 24th with the news that instigated this thread and sadly told me her internet and phone access was quite limited in hospital. Last night Rye made contact with her son who confirmed the sad news . Such a stalwart, Dee loved this Forum and despite all the problems that beset her over the past few years, she never wavered in her support, even apologising (when she was poorly and unable to walk far with her hip problems,)that she was unable to get out much with her camera . My sincere condolences go out to her family and friends. We will miss Dee on this Forum … she was one of the reasons Rye and I wanted to keep the Forum going … RIP dear friend …..

The ubiquitous cabbage white…. The caterpillars will decimate the cabbages in your kitchen garden but morph into angelic looking butterflies ready to lay their eggs and start the whole saga all over again ! Their work as pollinators is their saving grace … it’s all about the balance of nature … so easily tipped ….

I have looked again for this little gem over the past two weeks but sadly he appears to have gone … mind you the weather has been blowing a gale with persistent rain so maybe he is staying at home watching movies by the log fire too !

Ah thank you Paul … … I have to say it was a real bonus to have the opportunity as various issues have prevented me from using my camera as often as I usually do these past few months. It certainly was on my bucket list !

It’s often good to go back to reprocess an image … it’s an evolving process I find that is commensurate often with ones learning experience and expertise … you must be pleased with the result ….

Understandably there were only a small number of photos. posted this week as many of us were caught up in preparations for the Christmas holiday season but this image caught my attention both for it's content and ambiguous and amusing clever title ... Dented Wing by Mikbone wins POTW so congratulations Mik

Yeah reminds me a lot of Charles Rennie Mackintosh's design work.. I wondered if it was a restaurant frontage but sounds like its apartments .. Looks gorgeous ...

Definitely contact with the photographer with that intense look directly into the lens ... A striking portrait and I prefer the closer crop and processing of the first edit ....On the second image, the arm ( lower left )distracts, taking the eye out of the picture and the lightening of part of the background above her shoulder on the left of the image also seems better hidden by the darker area on the first image Yeah.... for me the first image is the better one Mik.
