  1. Recent lecturers at my club have tried to persuade people to do PAGB distinctions and spent lots of time doping so. They also rubbished the RPS . But I take your point about lack of cheapish meetings. I was in the Visual Art section but most of the action was in the South and their big event seemed to involve expensive weekends in hotels. I'm now starting to wonder whether it is worthwhile staying a member! jeff
  2. Thanks. I thought it might be age related. I get a discount on membership cost because I am old. I am still interested to know why the first question was asked. I am a bit sensitive about the question because the RPS was "dissed" by two recent lecturers who gave talks at my camera club. They seemed to have a PAGB promotional agenda that I found not necessary when invited and paid to give talks. Sorry. Gentle rant over. Jeff
  3. What is a blue badge and what is the significance to rps membership? Jeff
  4. So did I. The very difficult parking and long long intervals sat twiddling my thumbs put me off. Don't go to Chorley PS. They are far too good for me to participate. I go to Leyland. Comfortable and not too challenging to enter comps - but I am the only entrant in beginners prints and I can't get promotion until 2017 and no promotion possible in PDIs until 2017. I liked the folk and approach to photography at Blackburn PSbut they moved to Samlesbury airfield which is not at all easy for me to get to. Jeff
  5. Sandsend tunnel? Where inSandsend is it? I did a good explore there last year but the only tunnel I am aware of is the blocked up railway tunnel N of Sandsend. Jeff
  6. What! Do you get your man to do it for you? Jeff
  7. I don't think so. It only means that the RICS think I am a competent photographer based on a panel of 10 photos. Committing to do it made me get of my backside and do something. I think few professional photographers bother with distinctions! Jeff
  8. I have rejoined the forum and hope to be an ok contributor. Do mainly landscape but other ad hoc pictures. Use Sony camera with LR4 / Elemets 11 and a Canon A3+ printer. My biggest enjoyment is making a decent print. I have got an LRPS distinction but now don't know how to get a topic and the necessary skills to do an ARPS panel - the most difficult thing is, I find, the thought behind the picture or series of pictures. I am a camera club member but sometimes wonder why. Next big event is a photo course on the Isle of Eigg in April from which I hope to learn a lot about how to visualise pictures, organise compositions and improve technique. I'll practice on those things on holiday at Sandsend in a couple of weeks time. My IT skills are not good so I may struggle to use the forum properly but I'll try my best. I am long retired from earning a living. Jeff
  9. Welcome to the forums jeffworsnop :)
