Halo in edit

Morning all!

I was playing around with this image in Lightroom and while trying to get my sky similar to what it was on that evening I kept getting a little halo of light around the edge of the castle.

How would you sort this type of edit without getting a halo.

wow, gorgeous!  great purple/orange colors, that sky and beach and castle are fantastic.

if you're getting a halo in lightroom and that's the only program you're using then i'd suggest turning your clarity down.  there's a slight halo around the rock on the right also.  you could try using the brush tool with darkened highlights to blend in the edges.

if you're using photomatix or another program that you can start from within lightroom then it's probably getting introduced in that program.

Cathy that is a beautiful image indeed!

As to the halo, where you lift the shadows increase contrast vibrance and clarity to this extent then you will get halo's.

There is no way to prevent it in LR as it does not do layers, in Elements and Photoshop it is possible to remove them.

Hi Cathy

I guess because you know the halos are there they bother you but to be honest I wouldn't worry as that is just a stunning image.

The picture is so good most people wouldn't see them, only someone being super critical and it doesn't deserve that.

Beautiful Cathy.

Ron

I could not agree with you more Ron for personal and internet size but clicking on the large image makes it more noticable.

Now imagine you wanted to print it 18x12 or a magazine wanted to print it full page or as a double spread then it would be even more pronounced and a problem.

Thank you everyone !

I am pleased with the image considering most of them came out too Iight or too dark. I had posted it to flickr and my facebook and my friend has asked me if she can have a print of it. I am happy to give her one but was concerned about the halo.

However I have looked at a couple of others from that night and they all have it. Guess the sun was casting a light on that direction and my edits have made it more visible.

I am going to try doing it all again I Photoshop to see if I can improve it.
