?And I'm sure he will love it, and after winning the item, he asked if it has an "Idiot Button" and I guess that means "AUTO" mode lol

Tell him to start with using P mode - this will let the camera work out exposure / aperture but he can still change to spot exposure, adjust flash settings (and other stuff depending on make/model).

 

I always encourage beginners to use P mode as it allows a little input without being too frightening.

I actually found Panasonic's "idiot button" was pretty good (iA) and made some rather intelligent choices for me. Then as I gradually learned the camera I started to use P more and more and changed settings to suit. Now I have a camera that makes it easy for me to shoot in A mode and even M if I need control of shutter speed too!
