Dovercourt Lighthouse

Good to see that someone else likes lighthouses! Nice work.

If I had been taking this shot (I don't know the layout so this may not have been possible) I would move around to my right and zoom out a bit. That would help to put the light in the top right third of the pic and the wall at a diagonal in the bottom left. The wall would form a diagonal leading the eye from the foreground, across the picture, to the distant lighthouse. As it is, it's all just a bit too central for me; still a good shot though!

I do like that seaweedy wall in the foreground. I agree with Martyn about the angle though. But even if you kept that 'in line' POV, I still think it would work better if there was more space surrounding both elements - e.g. if you'd shot 'landscape' instead of 'portrait'.

I like the abstractual feel of the lighthouse coming towards you quite a powerful image

I wouldnt alter a thing except I am suprised Chris hasnt picked you up on the horizon he does on mine Its ever so slightly un straight, high right

Once? For a picture on which I otherwise showered praise? LOL

I like it and do not see adding more empty sea and sky each side improving it, unless of course you changed your position of view to place them on a diagonal line with each other and spread them across the frame.but as it is portrait was a good call in my opinion.

The "empty sea and sky" adds space, and room for the subject to breathe, as in Japanese minimalism, but I realise no two people are going to necessarily agree about things like that.

Thanks for all the comments, I actually set the Camera with the internal Spirit Level lol, I have a few more that are taken further away :-)

Mine wobbles too much away from the green! I think they're only useful if the camera is on a tripod - otherwise I use the grid.
