Lovely frosty sunny morning so I went out to hack back some of the jungle that had developed over the wet miserable summer

and surprised to see some colour

Thanks Kate

They were taken with hubby's little panasonic compact with macro setting, I took loads but always seem to have probs holding the camera steady, bumped up ISO to 800 but a lot were not as sharp as they should have been, I would love a reasonably priced compact with a VIEWFINDER!!!

I have always thought that was the problem using a monitor screen rather than a viewfinder to frame and focus. Holding a camera at arms length to see a monitor screen is nowhere near as stable as with a camera pressed against your face to steady it and your eye looking through a viewfinder. I hope if they ever go to electronic screens replacing the mirror in DSLR type cameras it will be with the screen replacing the focusing screen within the viewfinder and not just using a monitor screen on the back to focus. Also big heavy cameras, although not favoured by ladies, do provide inertia, which means they are harder to start moving (shake) when pressing the shutter button.

4th one down is nice Blackrox!

Thanks Dave, doubt I will ever get to grips with no viewfinder

as for heavy camera my 40d along with 18-270 lens weighs almost 1.5 kilo, I love working with it but it's like carrying a breeze block around LOL!!!

If the lcd screen was on top of the camera like a TLR camera (complete with shield that stops the sunlight reflections )

Camera at lower chest position, your head bent downwards (not offering confrontation in candids) No lens stuck in peoples faces

Pulled into your body for stability. I could live with it

Rather like reinventing the wheel Fuzzy apart from using an LCD instead of a virtual image focusing screen since that's the way the SLR started out before they invented the pentaprism, and as you say the TLR which kept the waist level finder for much longer. I still think the pentaprism type viewfinder is better though as sunlight does not dim the screen.
