I was mucking about with our fireplace - (never sensible) - and aside from living in constant fear that I would overheat/burnout my camera's sensors I ended up mucking about with two shots, one black and white and one high colour.

The effects is fairly amateurish I'll grant you, but I think the smaller one of the two is quite effective in its way...

Oh good point.

Well I took a black and white image and a colour one and layered them, then added a glow map and re-adjusted the colours some.

I removed some of the focus, more so on the smaller image, and added a slight watercolour effect.

The top image has been sharpened more relative to the smaller one...

The colour layer is a bit less opaque than the B&W one. As I say I was just playing really but I thought the effect was quite striking, more so in the smaller image as it focusses more on the flame.
