That last one is a cracker. There's a lot to like about the first too, but I'm a bit puzzled by what that fence is doing when it has sky behind it? The second is leaning rather a lot to the left - I wonder if perhaps the 'guide' vertical should be the near edge of the ruined tower, rather than the background chimney.

The fence was actually part of a gate, I was pressed right up against it.

I know the image is a little canted, partly I think it's my angle in relation to the subject, the wide-angle lens I was using and the fact that it was either the building or the chimney and I went for the building!

Still wish I could have got rid of that sign though.

What I meant was: the fence strands almost disappear (get very thin) when the sky is behind them, a very odd effect.

Oh I see. Um yeah well the whole thing was definitely there when I took the picture but now you come to mention it it is quite a nice effect actually...

Actually that's very cool. Thank you, was that with Photoshop?

Actually, any layer-based image editor with a cloning tool will do it. On the Mac, we're spoiled for choice, but on a PC you could download The GIMP (free, but a steep learning curve) or Photoshop Elements which is the majority of Photoshop for a fraction of the price. I'm sure there are others too.

I too like the last one the best.

I'm guessing on this one you used the built in dramatic tone filter on your E-PL5.

This filter works better on landscapes when you have detail in the sky, as you can see here it has done a good job on the land part but on the plain white sky all it has done is darken down the tower against the sky.
