But I would think a small detachable unit for the sensor / battery would be in order to keep the price right i.e a lens with a small attachment for the electronics then it becomes an interchangable lens unit

As the mobile phone has taken over the portable radios and record players walkmans and mp3's etc its not inconcievable these will become the operating system for the lens

How about instead of an ear piece you have an eye piece as a view finder with various buttons on the lens / phone (or touch pads ) transmitted to the eye piece by wireless

Its coming and sooner than later the camera has been one shape for too long

I suppose that would be ideal Fuzzy, a conventional smart-phone as the base control/viewfinder unit and just carry the separate lens in your pocket which could be remotely controlled from the phone when you wanted to take a picture.
