Rainbow Valley

The rainbow wasn't low, we were high. The rainbow is over one of the lakes (Ullswater I believe) but we were way, way up high above on a track where really, you aren't supposed to drive, but we (naughtily) did. The track (tarmac) came to and end at a farm gate and coming back down, the views were even more spectacular.

Great shot, Chrissy. You are right, you are spoilt for choice in the North Lakes area for scenic views. I spent a year working in Penrith and loved every minute - never got tired of the views.

Bit of local trivia - How many lakes are there in the Lake District?

OK, no takers then.

Well the shocking truth is that there is only ONE lake in the Lake District; Bassenthwaite Lake to be precise.

The others are either called a water or are a single name ending in 'mere' which is the old Cumbrian dialect for water / lake - eg Coniston Water, Derwent Water, Buttermere etc.

Sorry to have hijacked your thread, Chrissy

Its not before my time either. I was 4.

I'm not even going to tell you what was in the charts when I was 4 - but I certainly don't remember them!!

At least we both come from the charts era, which is more than can be said for our very eldest members.
