Dancing in the street

Recommended Posts

An uphill 40's dance yes the gradient was steep

Fuji this is classed as a 40's american stroll Its true identity and origin are lost in time and may not be true to the forties but its great fun doing

Definitely good fun. It's also a good way to get people involved when the dances considered more authentic and/or traditional can be seen as daunting, and with no partner needed, that's one reason it's often used during 'taster' lessons at events to get people up and moving. (*)

This picture includes both the participation factor for the dancing and also the sartorial style of the reenactors/recreators (or people who just enjoy the scene and the experience). Could quite easily be in a brochure, well taken and processed. There's great detail in there.

(*) disclaimer:  I must admit to a certain bias in that I have been attempting to learn to dance (for the first time in my life!) and the traditional Savoy-style Lindyhop is definitely daunting but great fun and exercise.

Where was this taken?

We go to tenerife a few times a year and go to fiestas whenever we can. Seeing the villages all joining in singing dancing in national costume is wonderful. We brits have few traditions left. Morris dancing is all that springs to mind.

Well there is nothing like starting with a difficult dance

You often see this being done with scant regard to the beat of the music

The dances that are good fun are the pallis stroll and the park parade both late 30's and a novelty dance similar to the lambeth walk and not that hard to master and a damn site less manic
