Just bought some new gear

It will be my last purchase for a while, I'm very excited but also sweating a bit lol I've just bought a Canon 600mm f4 is prime. It was a lot of money but I'm seeing it as an investment it should last a lifetime fingers crossed. I'm now ready to take wildlife photography seriously :)

Is that a mirror lens or a l-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-ng one?

That serious bit of kit, plus your very obvious skills, should combine to produce some excellent photography in due course, I for one look forward to seeing what you produce.

Take your time, learn how to use the lens to best advantage, the YouTube TV Tutorials are usually very good.

And, whatever you do, ensure your kit has full insurance..........and don't leave it on a bus;-)

Paul, Glover & Howe are excellent for photo specific insurance. A nice little firm where you often speak to the same person.

Their cover is good and a friend has claimed through them without bother.

Mention my name if you go with them and you might save me a few quid :)

Looking forward to seeing some of the photos!

Sorry mate I misunderstood, I've always thought of mirror lenses as a zoom type lens

No, they're a weird construct - short but very wide. They are not as expensive as a normal telephoto but use mirrors to bounce the light within the lens barrel; they only have a single aperture but they do have their fans, a cheaper way to get a really long telephoto (typically 500mm and longer.)

Only managed to get out for an hour yesterday to test the lens, fantastic piece of kit, unfortunately the light was awful and there was nothing of any real interest to photograph but I managed a few test shotspost-950-0-62613000-1407572956.jpeg
