View from Roa Island

The weather forecast said it was going to be warm and sunny, so I set out to see if I could get a shot of Piel Castle as the sun sets. It turned out to be a dull hazy day, I could barely see Piel Island let alone the castle. Had to settle for a shot of the Barrow lifeboat station and the jetty from Roa Island.

I walked across to the lifeboat station to see If I could get some better shots but the lifeboat crew were locking up for the day and I had to leave. They did invite me to return with my camera any Saturday morning. They said if the door is unlocked I should let myself in and ask one of the lads to show me round; an offer I'm not going to refuse!

I particularly like the second one with the ramp pointing out towards the island, and the muted palette feeling quite calm..

Some may dislike the central horizon but here I think that it would have been a shame to lose the arc of cloud over the island .

I hadn't even noticed it till you pointed it out! In this particular case, the solid foreground compared to the empty sky adds weight to the bottom half making the central position of the horizon almost irrelevant IMO.
