Don Komarechka macro

Recommended Posts

I don't know if this vid has been shared before but I thought it was awesome. Yes, it's nearly an hour and a half long, but the first hour is well worth the effort. Don talks about the basics of macro and also gets into advanced stuff like 200 frame hand held focus stacking. You also get to see how he does those amazing snowflake pics.

I watched this with intresest what is obvious is you dont need expensive equipment but each form of light can be used

This gave me an idea

My present homemade rig shoots light off camera close to the front of the lens from the left which is fine if the ambient light is from the right cancelling unwanted shadows, but now I am thinking what if I use a cheap ring light (not flash) as mentioned in another thread which allows me to switch off the left ring half  and see if when combined with the flash I can control the shadows on the right

Worth an experiment me thinks
