Smithills Hall Waterfall ( yes milky)

went for a wonder with an ex member of this forum (Gerry Baines) today, I thought I knew where the waterfalls were in the Belmont/Rivington area, but this one was a real surprise, bit slippery and muddy (only had my trainers on) but worth it :)

taken handheld with the kit lens.....

lol, not scared of a little mud, and my tripod has been drowned a few times lately, I will be back with my ND filters and a bit more time....may even take some NON milky ones for the non believers... :)

I have LOADS of nice places within 10 miles, quite lucky but the Moors are awful for the weather :(

The Moors are so open, aren't they? I can imagine how cold it is as I took the dog for a walk about 4pm today. I didn't put my gloves on as I was carrying the clicker and training treats in my hand ready to use.

I thought my fingers were going to drop off, so when the rain started coming down a bit heavier, we headed for home.

You still haven't answered the question about WHY you (and presumably other 'believers') like milky shots! I'd really love to know what the appeal is...  :hope:

I remember watching a high waterfall from the Horseshoe pass in North Wales and it looked white and milky to the naked eye from a distance.

I have loved them ever since.

I think it's how different people perceive running water.

Well, I see it as having motion. There isn't any in milky water.

I wonder if you focused you on on a particular spot and stared at that spot if it would be milky looking.

Perhaps, I don't know. All I know is that running water has a characteristic crystal-like blur to it, with myriad tiny points of light reflecting off it. You get nothing like that with 'milkiness'.
