London - discussing composition

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I'm posting some of my few shots taken in London to hear your thoughts and constructive feedback. I've already received very good one for longer exposure samples and looking forward to hear your thoughts on these as well.

Thank you.

Kind regards, Stan Photography.

Some great shots there Stan, and some not so great.  :)

#1 very strong view of Big Ben, I like it.

#2 I think the converging verticals need straightening - then it would be a better shot; it works in #1 but not here in my opinion.

#3 I think you need to rethink what you're trying for with that one - it's a kind of 'nothing' shot? (in terms of composition).

#4 This is like 1, where dramatic converging verticals work well - a strong composition

#5 A people shot with lots of potential - I personally think it would work better without the green ironmongery in the middle which doesn't add anything to the narrative (a slight change of angle).

#6 and #8 don't really do anything for me, I'm asking myself "What's the story? Where's the centre of attention? What's the subject?"

#7 a nice strong  composition, particularly with the bridge angled across the river like that - a really good picture.

I hope that's helpful, and remember - it's just one person's opinion!

That's answered the 1st question that sprung to my mind. Personally I am not a lover of distorted images on the whole, but I know some people do like it. I think the 1st one is one of those that does work for me - Big Ben looks impressive and quite magnificent.

Shot #3 is well composed and the eye is drawn right up through the center arch, but I would have liked to see a touch more of the foreground in it

Shot #7 is my pick of the rest
