Christening

Today I was a very proud grandfather as my fifth grandchild was christened. Being on good terms with both the vicar and the senior steward, I was given permission to go where I liked to take pics. The church was very dark so I used iso 1600, shutter priority at 60th sec. The pictures were very under exposed but brought back in Adobe Lightroom 5.

I'm stood on the pews at the back of the church for this one

Thank you Heather and Richard. I took a calculated risk with these pics, I knew they were under exposed when I took them and was relying on PP to get a decent image. I had to pull all my pics in the church up by 2 stops. One of my friends at the christening asked if she could take a look at the pics on my camera. I showed her the screen and she said, "Oh what a shame, they haven't turned out."

Well done on achieving some lovely pictures of the occasion under the constraints of lighting (or lack of). Using a high iso and underexposing was a risk, but it worked extremely well.

I especially like the candle picture for the look on the lady's face, but the first one is great with the kids all round the foreground.

It might be worth tweaking the colour slightly on the first one. I'm seeing a very slight green/yellow tinge that might benefit from warming slightly with a little orange.

Thank you Bugs! I played around with the white balance quite a lot on 24 of the 96 pictures that I took. I played with the colour selector tool, channel curves and HSL sliders until I really couldn't see what I was doing any more. I think I should have taken a break for a day then come back and taken another look. Now that you've mentioned it, I can see the colour cast in the boys face with the glasses at the front.

The font picture is also over bright, I did that because that's how the family wanted it. In reality, the font is at the bottom of a very gloomy tower and is lit only by 2 LED spots very high up.

It also works very well as a real 'family-feel' picture. The kids gathered round really need to be in the light, not in the shade to give it that feeling of being part of the emotion.

Thank you David. I was well chuffed when the candle pictures turned out. Just a shame I couldn't have got the baby's eyes in too!

Maybe a shot with the baby's face to go with that one, a change of position to opposite your son or son in law (not sure if he is your son or she is your daughter lol) - but there is always the danger of it looking like a 'portrait pose' where that one is completely natural looking
