A young lady who had just been getting her hair sorted, and a number of shots failed because there was a shadow across half her face, so I asked if she would step into the sunlight. Always worth asking :)

EOS5Dii. Canon 70-200 f4L @ 131mm, 580EXii reduced and diffused as fill-in, 1/200s @ f20

This is one case where I deliberately used a small aperture for greater depth of field because she was some distance from the people in the background, but I wanted to keep them as context.

I'd have preferred her eyes wider to catch more of the look but that wasn't going to happen in bright sunlight, and there wasn't enough room inside the tent to take the picture inside (and the detail shadows would have been harder to get).

Bugs: "What, I have a thing for blondes? No, no, no. No, I don't. What a suggestion!" :D

What a suggestion indeed, I don't mind if the hair is blonde, or brown, or blonde, or red, or blonde, or any colour really !!

Seriously though,  I used to be most reluctant to ask anyone to 'pose' for me because I didn't think my pictures were any good and they might want to see them.

I think I'm over the shyness to a large degree now, but it can still be a bit daunting when it's someone you have never met before. One advantage of these 40s events or other themed events is that people in character are very much prepared to be photographed and are some of the friendliest people you can wish to meet.

Conversely if you are in character or period dress, you can expect to be asked to pose as well which can be fun trying to hide the camera :)
