That's why I still prefer a desktop computer with a 24" screen over a laptop Richard, let alone a tablet or smart phone. Things seem to be going in different ways, TV screens getting larger, but portable computing screens getting smaller with the previously larger screened laptops being replaced by smaller tablets and even smaller smart phones. I gather Apple is probably bringing out a mini tablet on the 23rd:-

I remember the past craze for tiny black and white supposedly portable TV's, but that did not last more than a few years. People eventually realise you need decent sized screens to view films and video's and do proper computing on and that phone sized screens are better suited for being used for what they really are, simply phones. I remember the restart of black and white TV after the war and even in those primitive days the screens were either 9" or if you were rich 12", and the demand for larger more viewable screens soon pushed up their screen size. As with all "do it all, Swiss Army Knife type" gadgets, the smart phone has become a "jack of all trades, but master of none". Eventually either smart phones will have to find some way of providing bigger screens for film, video viewing and computing, or their use will shrink back to simply being phones once again.

Nothing new under the sun is there:-

So why should small screens take on this time for very long?

Tablets to replace the phone for that reason Richard? See:-

People are also realising that you can't do any real word processing or accounts on a touch screen keyboard, so even the tablet is now morphing back into the mini-laptop it was supposed to replace by providing a proper fold out keyboard once again. I wonder how much faster a qualified typist can use a proper keyboard than the on screen one many tablets still have?
