Using Elements Extract I never seem to get a clean cut no matter how hard I try, on reflection the hand and ukulele were both extracted from a dark background, would this make a difference

Any tips gratefully received

I think it's worked pretty well? I rarely use the Magic Extractor, but I just tried it and it seemed to work fine on a blue sign on a brick wall. A dark background would help I think, not hinder.

I can see a little raggedness on a few fingers and the end of the thumb, but that's all. Did you use the selection eraser and smoother to refine what the Magic Extractor originally picked out?

I ue Photoshop C.S. rather than elements so this might not make much sense but -

I use the polygon lasso tool as you can adjust the feathering around the edge, normally set it at 1. I find the magnetic and magic wand tools seldom leave a clean edge, not sure if you have the polygonal tools in Elements?

Yes Chris but still don't seem to get a clean edge (wonders if it's my old wrinkly hands :) )
