I like both. love the hdr one, I really like the effect, and the sky looks lovely. the hdr really suits the picture. the second, as bugs says, looks nice and warm and glowing.

now colin, you know i'm not techie but I do have a question. the hdr shot. is it 3 pictures at different exposures, or have you used a programme, say topaz? I have been trying hard to get this sort of look to some of my pictures, but I am struggling.

thanks to All for the replies and Annie, I'm always more than happy to answer queries

Regarding the 'Day' photo normally I shoot at least 3 bracketed exposures but I preferred to use this single raw file, I adjusted the raw file within NX2 to pull back detail in the highlights (sky, etc) and shadows and saved before converting to jpeg. I then copied this raw file x4 and used Photomatix pro to blend all 4 raw files. I then save as tiff or jpeg and open the file in CS2 to adjust curves, levels, reduce saturation and cloning. Might sound like a lot of effort but these are part of a commission (?) for the pub/restaurant owner.

I had also used a cp filter on the camera to help bring out the sky, but the angle of the sun didn't really help.

I didn't understand this step - you created 4 identical files simply to merge them again? (I understood the rest of it).

Sorry Chris my bad - If you create more than one raw file most HDR software will let you adjust the exposure of said raw files. I then gave each raw file a 2 stop separation.

Normally I would do this in camera using the bracket function.

that any better?
