A couple of pictures grabbed a few days ago. I don't have a Raynox, just my trusty Lumix superzoom which in macro mode, you thrust as close as you can get to your target, and hope! Be kind - most of you can do much better than this...

(Pictures uploaded in separate posts, due to the size limits).

good shots, especially the first one.

the very first time I tries my Raynox 250 I was like a child, treat yourself £45 well spent, all the other " Buggers" will agree I'm sure

(like the way I got away with using the good old northern word there)

Will a Raynox work with a non-interchangeable lens like on a superzoom?

In theory it should.

The raynox 250 comes as a lens with a universal adaptor which should fit lenses with front elements from 52-67mm and there are also adaptor rings (which use the filter screw thread on the lens) for other sizes 37-49mm.

The raynox lens itself has a rear element 43mm and front element 49mm so whether that would introduce vignetting on a larger lens I don't know, never having used one. Maybe we could persuade a raynox user to test it.

This is the manufacturers page if it helps :)

Thanks Bugs - it will work on my camera, without any vignetting apparently (there's a camera reference chart). The bit that slightly baffles me is that they claim that getting full macro effect is at the camera's fullest telephoto setting. This raises some issues:

  1. The Lumix FZ 'macro' setting works at full wideangle - is the Raynox used at a non-macro setting, e.g. P?
  2. At full telephoto, my camera doesn't focus closer than 1 metre - will the Raynox shorten that?
  3. At full zoom, there are serious camera shake issues!

Sorry to pester you with questions, but that page didn't mention those issues.

I'm not sure about 1. maybe Annie could look at the settings she uses, I must admit I didn't notice if her lens was extended when using the raynox.

2.  Any macro-ising addition will reduce the minimum focussing distance.

3.  You could increase the ISO setting to make the sensor more sensitive thus allowing a faster shutter speed to reduce movement effect.

p.s. pester away, that's the beauty of this forum, people with questions can normally find people with answers, and sometimes there is more than one correct answer (I even get them wrong sometimes or find a more complex then required answer, and others are good enough to point them out without making me feel too much like a numpty)
