Yikes!

It's not your camera than can do it, it's the editing software on your computer.

You should find it on the file menu, where you should see save / save as / save for web  (or possibly save optimised)

All it does is strip the data that is normally stored along with the picture, and then optimise the saved image for web display (resolution/filesize/quality etc) so your file is smaller than it otherwise would be.

Originally from the days when connections were slow and you wanted to keep file sizes as small as possible to reduce loading times

so the size doesn't really matter too much (oo er)

I see we are back to basics again What sort of site is this? tut tut

Annie I usually reduce my images to a meg before I send it up to PB

Just so that if someone were to pinch it they would only get hold of a little one

One thing to add to that otherwise really helpful link Phil - most of our picture are in the resolution range 150 - 300 ppi (pixels per inch). As your average (non-Retina) computer display is only 72 ppi, that's the setting we should use when uploading, which reduces the file size considerably.

There is a lot to explain why save for web but you can hide or show copyright, exif.  Set for viewing for pc, mac or monitor. Alter the save for web size and tweak it if there is any blurring due to compression.

I suggest youtube or something to get you started on saving for web.

Oh, also when you are saving for web, there is a preview button so you can see how the image looks before you save it.  Its worth previewing as you may have to tweak contrast, sharpen it more for the web and so on.
