Learning Curve

I'm getting there and learning every day

Taken June 2010,  jpeg copy of original RAW file, early days with my Canon 40D and just started using RAW,

I was never happy with the editing I did at the time, could have been with Elements

This was an early attempt, Ooops!!! I can see I never even straightened it

This I did yesterday using Lightroom, Looking at the other version I cannot for the life of me understand why I didn't even crop the image.

For years I've been looking at beautiful scenery, taking a pictures, then being really disappointed with how they turned out. It's only recently that I've discovered I can do something about it, and this is a great example. I love the result; I could hang that on my wall. The two small characters are not too prominent so as to spoil the scene, but they do give a sense of scale to the landscape.

Thanks Martin, I just find editing with Lightroom a revelation and seldom use Elements any more unless I have bracketed, pans or layers  I want to work with.

I still cannot get my head round Landscapes, even cropping to my eyes never looks right :)

I do like your final edit

Leon, I think landscapes are my first love, these days I do try to capture the whole image and try not to crop.  This is where ROT grid  helps, sadly I only have it on live view which I seldom use unless I am using a tripod and will then have a quick check
