Emerald Damselfly M/F (today)

Today at Wicken Fen, the emerald damselfly wasn't quite as camera shy as normal :) (or maybe I just had the right aftershave on)

The emerald damselfly (lestes sponsa) is the only one I know of that does not park it's wings fully along the body when at rest, but keeps them out at an angle.

Male: (blue eyes when mature, and with segments 1 and 2 being powder blue)

Female: (Brown eyes and brown underside to the body. The immature male can also have brown eyes, but the pterostigma are white in the imm. male (pterostigma are the colour patches at the tips of the wings))

And this caused a bit of a stir. Not something seen very often although it obviously does happen :)

Not the clearest of pictures but you get the idea
