Swallows

Inside a birding hide at Wicken fen

 

The swallows have now succesfully nested for a third year inside the hide, and they are so used to people that they ignore all the watchers and cameras and flashes. The parents fly in and out through the open hatches and open door, right past people sitting or standing there.

 

Today some of the chicks were exercising their wings and they looked fully feathered, so they won't be there for much longer.

 

I did manage a few pictures as the parents were feeding them, despite the adult only pausing briefly to deliver food before shooting off for more.
