Batch Watermarking

Recommended Posts

I need to start by saying that I haven't tried this process on varying sized images, my images were all landscape format 1024px wide.

In order to batch watermark images you will need to create an image to use as your logo/copyright message. So that's where we'll start.

How you create your logo is up to you but I'll show you what I did.

Click File>New to create a new file. I set the width at 500px and the height at 50px. Ensure the background is set to Transparent. Give the file an appropriate name and click OK.

Select the Custom Shape Tool and the copyright symbol from the Shape menu.

Drag out a black symbol then select Filter>Stylize>Emboss.

You can change the settings to suit your needs.

Change the blending mode (hidden behind this pop-up) from Normal to Hard Light.

Select the text tool and enter your text after the symbol choosing your size, font etc. then apply the same filter and blend modes as above.

Select File> Save For. Change the save mode to PNG-24. Click Save and select a location that you are not likely to change or remove the file from. Close the image.

Open an image. Open the Actions pallet by selecting Window>Actions.

Click the New Action icon as shown. Give your action a name and click Record.

Select File>Place.

Locate your logo from the pop-up box and click OK. Place in your preferred position and change the opacity if needed.

Select Layer>Flatten Image.

Select File>Save As and save the image.

Click the Stop Recording icon and close the image.

Select File>Automate>Batch

This is where the automation takes place. If you have saved the Watermark action in the default actions it should already be visible in the top boxes.

Choose the location of the images you want to apply the logo to. The following boxes can be left unchecked.

Choose the destination folder where the new images are to be saved. I recommend choosing a different location to the originals, you never know.

Tick the Override Action "Save As" Commands box. Click OK and the process should begin.
