Sensor Dust

Recommended Posts

Just been processing some pics from this morning and had a bit of a shock.
Naive possibly, but I honestly thought that I still had a spotless sensor, even after 2 1/2 use, how wrong I was!
Crank up the dehaze tool and the mess is evident.

I hate that tool

What kits do you use for a diy sensor clean?

I'd be very interested too. Having seen just how bad my sensor is I've become somewhat paranoid, scrutinising every single image.

I have one of these: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Eyelead-SCK-1-Sensor-Cleaning-Olympus/dp/B0046VBEE0

Saw it demonstrated about three years ago on a visit to the Photo Show at the NEC and was deeply impressed. A mate bought one there and then and has cleaned my sensor(s) a couple of times over the years but I finally invested in one and its absolutely brilliant.

No fluids so no measuring or spills - no wiping so no risk of scratching - it last for years so its a good investment - you can use it daily if need be without any damage to your sensor.

I may have to have a practise on the 40d.  I did have it cleaned at a shop but it came back just as dirty which annoyed me at the time.  I think there are lubricant deposits on the sensor? I find dust easy to shift but the oils are a different matter.

Does anyone have any recommendations as to how to remove dust from the sensor in a fixed lens camera?

Other than hope it gets knocked loose your only option is sending it away - if its under warranty you might get it done for free as it shouldn't really happen but its a grey area where I've seen success and refusals from various brands.

Hopefully they'll clean the sensor while it's away for repair.
