Hôtel de Ville, Villefranche sur Saône

I like to hunt down buildings and places connected to Napoleon Bonaparte in my fascination with this very interesting character.

This was the old town hall in Villefranche. Bonaparte actually stopped here. After returning from his first abdication on Elba, Bonaparte travelled from the coast to Paris and passed through Villefranche sur Saône. The sign on the right says that on 13 March 1815 Bonaparte had lunch in this building following a welcome by 60,000 people from the Callade (the area around Villefranche) after re-establishing the tricolour in Lyon.

Only 3 months later would Bonaparte be standing at Waterloo in crisis.
