Epson photo 1400 colour match problem

Recommended Posts

I am really struggling to get my printer to match the on screen image, basically the image looks flat / dull and less vibrant than on screen

settings tried so far include...

300dpi - tried both 8 and 16 bit settings

checked all things like cleaning nozzle heads alignment etc.

changed job stock / renewed a couple of ink cartridges

Printing using RGB/SRGB and Printer

never had a problem before, just running out of ideas so any help appreciated.

A screen is a back-lit panel with high contrast and high colour saturation/vibrancy - it will never look the same as paper under reflected light.

Now there are screens and there are screens so this isn't absolute.

A high end, matt monitor that is correctly calibrated along with your camera, your software and your printers profile can display something very close to the final output but that is a total solution and there is no quick fix. All I can recommend without spending a fortune is to get a profile tool and at the very least get your screen displaying the as near as it can to the correct colours/contrast/black point then if you are still having problems get your printer profiled for each paper you use.

I appreciate your answer BP but I don't think screen settings have a lot to do with this problem, more of a printer fault. I have been using the Epson for the past few years and nothing I have printed has been so far away from the image on the screen. I large file I sent off less than a month ago came back almost a spot on match to the on screen version.

I think I may remove both printers from the mac clear all settings and profiles and start again.

Ah, hadn't realised this was a new phenomenon.

Deleting the printer and starting from scratch could well do the trick - one other thing - have you switch (intentionally or by mistake) between the printer handling the profiles and Adobe?

BP regarding the handling, that I'm not sure but I can't really see anything other than in LR about switching and I have tried various options such printer etc - one reason why I will start from sctratch.

I had a similar problem with my R2400 a while ago. I first of all thought it was age - it was 8 years old. I reloaded the driver from the Epson site and made sure all the nozzles were clean. That seemed to clear it.

Judy - cleaned reset nozzles a few days ago, didn't seem to make any difference but I will check the driver (thanks).
