Sitting having a play with some images this morning and got to thinking - don't worry, I was sitting down so didn't hurt myself.

Digital cameras really are quite extraordinary.

This was shot with the Pentax K30, it was taken with a 'kit' lens, even at 1600 ISO the shutter speed was down at 1/8s and it was hand held. The K30 has an older generation 16MP sensor yet the image is sharp, the noise is remarkably well controlled and due to the fireplace being such a remarkable structure it is frankly astonishing that I am able to magnify the shot and take a look at the carvings in a way I couldn't have done when I was there. I started 30+ years with film, processed it myself and could view the mage at high magnifications when printing the negatives in the darkroom and while it was a fun it was't exactly convenient and sharing the experience would be very difficult.

I take it for granted these days but we are very lucky to have such technology available.

still being in my 30's (only for another 13 months) I too can remember film but it was the easy load system atx? can't remember..... I might buy a roll of film and show it to the kids in this old Praktica slr.  digital really has it's up's and downs, I've had a few jobs where I get paid for taking pictures, but there are these new fangled camera phones, imagine trying to sustain  photography business these days...
