I'm only posting 2 pictures today... harewood (on a very open Yorkshire moor) was quite chilly, then after dinner I called it a day and come home early, trying to keep a camera dry is hard work even with a cover thingy...

MK1 Escort "tyre warming".... bloody stinks :)

Got to love the mk1 escort :)

I remember buying one secondhand in the 80s. It was an absolute pig to get acceleration and keep ticking over smoothly. Then I discovered a vital rubber gasket between the air filter and the carb was missing (unique to Escorts?). Replaced that ... great performance!

Love the Mk1

A mate and I built one from three donor cars a good few years back - Mexico arches, four Cibie Super Oscars on the front, entire wiring loom built from scratch (try that with a modern car) custom designed (by us) exhaust and a fantastic brilliant white paint job.One of the best summers I've spent, even if most of it was inside or under the shell getting it perfect.

I think it replaced the Cortina, if I remember?

Not sure which car you mean Chris but the escort was more of an 'Anglia' replacement the Cortina really went on to be the Sierra.

I had an Anglia and changed the engine from a 999cc to a 1200 and added a set of 5'n half J steelies my first venture in 'Custom Cars'.

Yes, I think you're probably right. The Escort arrived late 60s and I think the Cortina staggered on into the early 70s?

Good set Leon, I'm a Mini bloke myself, (that's Real Mini), but the Escort does look a bit tasty,

Geoff

Yes, that modern "thing" may LOOK a bit like a Mini, but mini it ain't.
