I remember being gobsmacked at that view the first time I took the ferry across to Birkenhead. The 'Three Graces' are always just so lovely.

Liverpool is a great city, but much maligned - your panorama really does it proud.

Certainly a great city for photographers, I could have spent days there but just had one day and moved on across the Wirral and into Wales.

Have you read Stuart Maconie's "Pies & Prejudice - in search of the North"? He makes an interesting comparison between Liverpool and Manchester, two cities that could hardly be more different. He presents Manchester as the archetypal Northern metropolis, home of just about everything socialist from the early 19th Century onwards, and cradle of the Industrial Revolution. Liverpool on the other hand he says is IN the North, but not OF it; a truly cosmopolitan port with two-way tentacles reaching round the globe, more akin to New York than anywhere else.
