  1. I just received this Email out of the blue :)
    Hello Paul,

Upon looking through our online portfolio we noticed your fantastic The Dictatorhttp://www.professionalphotographer.co.uk/portfolio/large-version?galleryimageid=96377

We wanted to know if we could feature it as Photo of the Day on the blog on our website please? In allowing us to write a short piece about why we picked it you would also be giving us permission to use the image on our social media channels to promote the article and your work.

If this is okay, let us know and if you are also able to send us the high-res file that would be great so we can make the most of its quality in the article. Otherwise we can just grab the low-res from the gallery.

Once we have received your permission and your image – if you choose to send it – then you can expect your image to go online one of the days in the week, so keep an eye on the website to see when it appears!

    Best wishes,

  2. Hi, with a softbox, the closer it is the better the light wraps around if it were me I would place your key light either side about 1-2ft away and your reflector the opposite side to bounce the light back. ive done portraits indoors with on cam flash bounced of the celling. if you have more than one light then I would use your key light one side, fill the other and a bg/hair light

  3. Wow, I wasn't expecting that!!! Thank you for choosing my image, I haven't won image of the week for a while because the standard from everyone has been so high, so it really does mean a lot to win it again considering the competition I was up against. Thank you :)

  4. Do you? I didn't know that, I sent sent some images to 3 or 4 mags just to get my name out there. I've heard back from 2 bbc wildlife mag that said although they were good images they couldn't print them because they were taken at the zoo and now AP

  5. Hi all, I received an email today which is quite exciting. A while back I sent some images to a few magazines but totally forgot about it until today when I received this :)

    Dear Paul

You will be happy to hear we have looked through your submission sent to Amateur Photographer and chosen your material to be put forward to the next stage of the selection process for our Reader Portfolio pages.

    So what happens next:

We need you to send us a CD with the images originally submitted. They will have to be Tiff or Jpeg format compatible to Photoshop, which should be 300dpi and 2480 pixels along the longest length.

If you could also fill in the attached submission form print it off along with a contact sheet of the images and post with the CD.

Once we have received the CD, contact sheet and form we will check the quality of the images with our design team and make a final decision. Myself, Oliver Atwell or Jon Stapley from our features team, may contact you to discuss things further regarding image info. But you will be informed if we choose to publish your material.

Feel free to give me a ring if you have any questions or concerns on the number below. The postal address for the AP Reader Portfolio picture desk is:
