  1. Why buy office? If you're a business that is pretty much based around office documents and your customers expect it then there's maybe a reason.

For home use, forget it, there are plenty of compatible alternatives.

With Apple kit you get their office suite and for Windows and/or Linux there is Open Office or Libre Office (and yes I use all of the above in different flavours on assorted desktop/laptop setups).

All of those can be used locally without a cloud connection which I find rather useful since i am often out and about and don't have a decent connection. OK you can't sync across multiple devices but if that is a concern then for non-private documents I could always use a cloud storage that doesn't report everything to google or whoever and just open the document in a local application if I have remembered to upload it beforehand. If I didn't remember then tough, it couldn't have been that important.

  2. Welcome Jo, I was going to attempt to greet you in Italian then saw you were originally a Londoner and breathed a sigh of relief.

This is just about the friendliest forum you could wish for and advice and opinions are always freely given (along with the occasional wisecrack) so sit down and get comfortable..

  3. Well, working during the day is rather limiting during the week as I have limited room and inspiration at home and I don't 'do' cold soggy evenings outdoors, but weekends I hope to be out and about maybe trying my hand at a 'scape or three.

Elsewhere I have been attempting to photograph musicians and dancers which is something that I should be able to continue during the colder months, so watch out for a few more of those, although probably not including me as I am not musical and any reasonable dancing is purely accidental ;)

  4. Great selection of pictures and the use of mono does tend to reduce the impact of any modern backgrounds.

I've found the best way to get a lot of the shots without background problems is to arrive at the events as soon as it opens to the public, preferably before :) (being known by organisers and other participants also helps)

  5. It's a big update that requires stacks of space if you do the update on the i<whatever> itself.

If you use iTunes, by connecting the device to your computer for the update, the storage space is used on the computer, not on the device so saving a lot of messing around.

Backup is, of course, always advisable before any update.
