Too much user input, I'd start with good intentions but it would stop quickly and become pointless. If/When I get fibre I will look into it but for now its not a viable option.

I've got fibre and I can tell you - upload speeds still aren't fantastic. And they might be limited even further by the server you're uploading to. :(

My problem with cloud backups - very good and getting more affordable - is the speeds I have available for uploading data. Currently I have a 1 to 1.5Mb/s upload speed so my current (almost full) 4TB drive would take forever and a day to sync and I don't even think it could keep up with the amount of data I shoot each day.

Perhaps what you need is just to upload your best pictures only to the cloud?

  3. You've all forgotten the other way to backup AS WELL AS those mentioned. The SD card in the camera - when it's filled up, failures deleted and filled up again... I remove from the camera and store. That's full of decent images (well, not FAILED images!)

Sometimes Colin I just wonder where the hell the week goes...  I swear there doesn't  seem to be 24 hours in a day anymore and how I ever found time to actually go out to work years ago  I'll never know !!    I think remembering  stuff starts to be an issue for us Old Timers ... Lol  ....erm... what was your name again ?

    "Oh look - a castle"

    "What's a castle?"
    "I don't know. Why d'you ask?"

"Ask what? Oh look - a castle".

In my short time I have learned that the quality of a photo is as much, if not more, down to the quality of the lens as to the camera.

Welcome to the forums  Mike. :14_relaxed:

I'm not sure you can be "alone" with a smartphone and social networks?  Good picture though.

In my time I have learned that the quality of an image is more down to the eye & brain behind the viewfinder than anything else... just wish mine were better!

  6. Welcome Danny - I think you'll find you've made the right choice. One of our leading lights BP has replaced his DSLR kit with a Fuji mirrorless (I'll leave him to wax lyrical about his current kit). My own Lumix is fixed lens, but I can take it anywhere and very much enjoy using it.

  7. Brilliant!  You even included my favourite advert (the professional generic 'Taste Of India' advert with the local Tandoori crudely spliced onto the end...).

The only thing missing was Lord Harlech's BBFC certificate classifying it for public viewing.
