i use three, Samsung 3tb (made by Seagate) and a Seagate 3tb.
I found there was around a tenner or so between 2-3tb so went for the bigger storage ones.
i use these for photos, films, music & documents.
i also have a dane-elec 1tb which i have had for years and store only photos on this one.
all three ok but had a problem with the Samsung one so got in touch with help line and had to send it back to Samsung (Seagate) in Holland. they checked it out and it was damaged so replaced it no problems, i had had it for a couple of years. as luck had it it has a 3 year guarantee. but i lost everything (no photos were stored on it though). but i suppose it could happen with any of them.

I found this fossil a while ago while out for a wander, I sent an image to a fossil site for identification.
I thought it was a tooth but they said that it was a sea creature, which was a filter feeder, similar to the way a barnacle feeds.
it forced it's way in to the sand and using a long tube it would put out it's feeders to catch small creatures.
I have found a picture that shows what it looked like at the time.
the age of the fossil is between 350-650 million years old depending on the age of the rock it is in.

spent some time deleting stuff with w10, but some of the windows stuff I know I don't want and will not use won't uninstall. I did find a way to switch some off in settings.
to me, if your used to apps or these smart phones then you should be ok, geared up for the younger people and future, but me being an older type gets confused. I like the more basic stuff, easy to use and saves memory.
the main thing that put me off straight away, I was told that using edge (for the web) was that everything I searched for or looked at was also sent to Microsoft, not keen on that idea, privacy straight out of the window. there is also something in there that lets some apps read your emails sent & received. that's switched off
i'll leave it on the laptop but I don't think i'll download it on to pc (8.1) as the machine is a year old so when I have to change the pc in a few years it (w10) will already be set up on the new machine.

done the laptop (w7), don't like edge and cartina??? or whatever it is called is no good to me, got the aol back on the web, links and old programs seem to be working ok.
to me they have auto added stuff that I will never use, but try and uninstall them is another matter. also using up space with stuff I don't need or use, progress I suppose but I think they should ask if you want it and not download as per course.

I saw on msn that it wasn't released until Wednesday midnight even though they are all talking about it on the radio.
i'll try next week and give it a bit of time to calm down.

stick with it Paul, some sort of hobby will always keep you going and on form.
put camera onto auto focus and we will never know.

I was thinking on the lines of those that voted for someone else could re-vote for the ones that tied, even if only one managed to vote there is a winner.
also a tie is a tie, two comps running together, nothing wrong with that, as long as both comps are not where people have to travel, so there could be a selection subjects where they could do them at home or close to.

shame we don't know the full story behind this.
but for something as common as a dog (pet) then I think she has done well to get any money for an image.
if it was that good (novel) then like I said before she could try to photograph a similar photo, nothing lost.
interesting point for anyone who finds themselves in a similar position, do you take a one off payment or a percentage of each print (issue of use).
I suppose it depends on the image and the lengths gone to, to capture it.

if she was happy with the price (if paid) then not a problem, she can always go and get similar shots (unless as black pearl said).
if not paid then she should have agreed a better deal.

I went for the macro lens first, sigma 105mm.
105mm over the 60mm as you don't have to be as to close to the insect (subject, so I was told).
once I started I could not put it down, on a warm, still, bright summers day the world of insects is amazing. seeing things that you never see when just looking with the naked eye.
one day I spent 3 hours just photographing insects & plants in a 100 yard stretch of wild verge.
if I needed some light I used a little bright torch which fitted in the bag with no probs and cost wise was next to nothing.
I now have added to my kit a nissin ring light, I have not been out in the field with macro & light yet, tried it in the garden when I first got it with mixed results, not used to settings on light was the problem.
I used the light for portraits more than macro, but then again the weather has not been that great to get out and shoot macro wildlife.
once you do get into macro (focusing is the key and you will get many out of focus shots) I think you will love it, this side of photography is really interesting and fascinating.
