  3. Great great camera. :) Totally manual, right? You know, it's a strange thing, but my memory of using manual focus is that it was barely slower - if at all - than using autofocus; at least you were always focusing on what YOU wanted to be in focus, not what the camera thought you wanted. Even with a single-spot focus with modern cameras, if your subject is off-centre, you have to press the shutter halfway to lock focus, then recompose and shoot. Manual focus took no longer, unless my memory fails me.

100% manual, and with split image I was as fast at single (not continuous) focus as an af camera.

The meter is still +-1/2 a stop

The serial number is 7400253 making it 1973 just about when I would have bought the original.

Just got 6 rolls of 24 exp FP4 from LCeE 24 exposures as they are easier to load on a Patterson auto spiral than 36.

  4. My first camera was an Instamatic 25, that got me into photography, then a Praktica Super TL, and then a Nikkormat, THEN I got a black Nikon F Apollo Ftn, which many years ago was stolen, and replaced with a Canon, yuk.

Two weeks ago I ordered from the USA a Nikon F Apollo Ftn, Silver.  Apart from a fer small touchups on the black it is immaculate and working.  £200, including postage, never been let down yet buying from the USA

I am back to film now for a looooooong time.

Modern cameras are not as versatile, the F/F2 etc could swap heads, screens, backs, drives, in their day they were amazing.

  5. Well I don't smoke, drink, gamble and my camera gear before I cam into money was from my father

Also I paid IN to the system before becoming a single parent I didn't just turn up in this country or have kids at 18

  6. I suppose I'm quite lucky really, I bought an ex council house, they are all band A, there was talk a few years of re assessing them all, glad they left us alone.

this country really is falling apart, needs the "great" dropping from the title.

I read the other day somewhere there was a council having to save £80million then spend half a million refurbing the town hall offices!

and another thing that peaves me off, in my line of work we do a lot of quotes for schools, hospitals ect... why does a hospital or school need £10k of lighting where it could be lit for a 5th of the price?

this is where our money is being wasted!

    sorry... rant over..

I moved to a hospital as a Buyer/Contracts officer, from Heathrow Airport Limited.

In the first year I saved £25k.

What got me was the complaints that I (a) started going for quotes on anything from £500 to £5000 and from £5000+ Tender,  the complaints were "we have always used John Smith or Sam Bloggs"

Yeah and they know that you ***********

  7. What I want to know is why am I now expected to pay for all those poor parents who can't afford to feed their children, and now will get free school meals.

Stop SMOKING, going to BINGO, DRINKING and GAMBLING

As s single father of three MY sons were always fed and clothed, perhaps not steak and designer shoes but not rubbish either

Nothing annoys me and more on sites than the inane

    "Nice photo".........................  WHY!

    "Great set".......................is it "WHY"

    "Nice shot".........................   WHY?

This is of NO use to anyone
