    So disappointed in this.
Having read all the Harry Hole novels, I have had this on pre-order for ages.
Didn't realise it was actually a re-working of Shakespeare's Mabeth, set in 70s Scotland.
It's hard to believe Nesbo actually wrote it, it is such hokum.
But I paid for it, so I'm darned well going to finish it, complaining all the way.

Just been handed my first Harry Hole "The Snowman"
I am finding it interesting but in places hard going remembering all the Norwegian names and occasionally there appears to be a whoopsy in the translation from Norwegian when a word is missed or the sentence dosnt seem to make sense

    Or is it just me???

  2. If you can get to the north east of the cathedral and onto Nettleham Rd after north gate or roads off such as the grove there are no parking restrictions on these roads (or at least last August} The benefit is you are at the top of the hill so walking anywhere around the castle / cathedral is on the same level

Google maps will show you where I mean

  3. The market square is a nice place all roads lead up to it
It has the cathedral at one end and the castle at the other

The castle is expensive to enter last year it was £12 each and in my opinion photographically maybe not worth it unless there is something going on in there The center is all grass there may be good views from the walls but as I didnt bother going round them so I dont know

Car parking is a nightmare the best bet is to find a side street south of the castle and walk back
There are pubs cafes and public toilets (close to the castle entrance) in the market square
Look forward to your images of it

  4. A method to take photos of photos

You will need a tripod that can be reversed this means you can place the photo flat under the tripod and you are then able too wind your camera up or down (nearer or away from the photo) between the legs

you will need at least one flash off camera 2 is better
you will need some means of triggering the flash/s amazon e bay etc do cheap chinese transmitters and receivers (one transmitter from flash shoe on camera and 2 receivers 1 per flash

You can then experiment with the flashes to eliminate glare or shadows

Sounds expensive but you dont need an expensive tripod as the weight is between the legs making it quite sturdy
Transmitters and receivers  Neewer do them on amazon for £16 for 1 tran and 2 receivers

Flashguns, check out charity shops for old flashguns Provided you dont use them on your hot shoe and only on the receivers you will be okay
Old flashguns use higher trigger voltage than new guns (blame the EU for limiting trigger voltage to 6v ) some old guns go up to 220v and can fry the camera electronics

There you go a stick to hang your guns with gaffer tape and experiment away

Of course you could be stinking rich in which case, for a fortune, there are things you can buy

  5. Hi GMK

Welcome aboard and dont be afraid to ask questions, if they are technical just choose the appropriate board, They just love tech questions on here

If they are images we love them even better If you want detailed feedback about them stick them in the image feedback section

  6. Basically an updated X-A3 roughly the same size but with the 15-40 powered zoom lens front to back is shorter than the A3 with  16-50 but slightly heavier The sensor has been modified to incorporate the hybrid focusing posably from the X-T2

Faster focusing as the A5 uses the x-t2 technology For the macro shooter the bit I like is " in camera focus stacking", although they dont call it that typical

Same price as an A3, thats a surprise

The rest of changes are in video and addition of mic input

As a take anywhere type camera it is worth a look it weighs around 375gm and the fuji T2 which is light weighs 501gm  both fully loaded with battery and lens

    Check Canon Pixma PRO-10

Its good enough as i know but it costs around 600$

    Hi there MA322

Welcome to the forum There is a welcome center just lower than the image section That is if you want to say hi, its not compulsory

Ink jets are great if you are using them on a regular basis but then it cost you on ink and some of the substitute inks are  nothing like a direct comparison to OE cartridges

If not used regular the ink jet becomes an ink and the jet goes missing as in blocked and then it can be a devils job to get flowing again

n my opinion, I don't think it matters if people call each other by their real names, however it may matter to some new members who could feel left out. Maybe if we had the option to add our real names to the profile which is shown, that would alleviate the problem. I have seen this on other forums

This is what I was trying to say

It sets up two camps those who have been here a while (although I find when someone is talking about sam and the post is from crusty sid it does get confusing) and those new uns This looks as if there is a inner circle

It is up to the individual if he shows his real name or the name above his avatar or both but I will, as i have always, only refer to the visible name so that people know who I am talking about / to

  9. Just a thought on cliques

Say if the poster's handle is crotchety sid and some of the replies refer to him by his real name Steve,  giving an intimate impression of closeness,  to those outside that dont know him as Steve and would be reluctant to address him as such

I suggest from now on we only use the names above the avatars to make things equal

Its a small point but one that I think is quite important

But I do notice that generally no one really explains how you achieve the many excellent photos you seasoned chaps and chapesses post.

Dennis I would love to show how I achieve my images BUT its not a secret its a whole load of steps mostly wrong ones that do your head in at the end you have no idea what exactly you did Nearly all the steps in bits are on you tube how to cut out how to use curves how to blend how to sharpen how to even crop

Another problem is what post process software do you use I use a combination of DNG, Bridge and CS5 who else uses this I dont use lightroom so anything I said would probably only apply to me

Maybe I should post who to follow on you tube and why. That might be helpful I will look into that given time

  11. I know many who have fell into that black hole me included

I have sold at least 3 sets of equipment only to return

What Ive found is there is more to image making than pressing the shutter I like being among the places and people that interest me I  suppose in one sense I like being an observer and an image is a small important part of that

The disinterest sets in when you start to run in a rut and cant step out This is the time when your imagination needs to give you a kick up the aris

I often follow certain photographers on the internet and you tube and can feel that yearning to get up and do something when ever I can get out

I now look at my rubbish shots (80%) as practice images to learn more about PS  before sending them into the pixel bin

  12. Hi and how many fuji shooters do we have now

When i first joined everyone was a canonite or nikonmiester now all of a sudden we are all heading for the japanese mountain

Just one question is the fuji lighter than the others once we have all the relevant lenses we desire plus the filters and cleaning materials and the tripods and remote controls and at least two flash guns and of course that there gadget that was ohh so expensive and indispensable that the spider at the bottom of the big sturdy bag with the leather strap  has made a web around

Sorry I miss read your post

No need to apologize the written word is often misconstrued

It was my fault for not saying " just like " at the start but then I was the only one that knew what I meant
I get myself into a lot of trouble with Mrs Edges the same way

No Lee child wrote the jack reacher books. And the jack reacher films with Tom cruse are very enjoyable. The film based on Vince Flynn books is called America assassin and I wouldn’t waste your time. Pity really as the books are brilliant.

I realize that Jack Reacher was a Lee Child creation  I was pointing out (this is where we differ) that the films were for me a disappointment

Tom Cruse vs my image of Jack Reacher just dosnt stack up and the film one shot was a cut down version of a good book

Its a great pity that Vince Flynn  passed away in 2013

The survivor is the first from Kyle Mills carrying on the Mitch Rapp series and its very much in Vince Flynns style
